Be Aware and Beware
A presidential order opened enrollment for Affordable Care Act health insurance from February 15 to May 15. During this time you may choose a plan, change your plan, get assistance paying premiums and out-of-pocket expenses if you qualify. The government has a strong advertising campaign to make you aware of this opportunity.
BUT government information is still inadequate, and in some ways misleading. You’ll hear or read that you can get health insurance for as little as $10 or $50 a month. Healthcare.gov and representatives at the Exchange (Marketplace) are trained to lead you to the plan with the least expensive premium.
Be aware of these facts:
- In our area all Affordable Care Act compliant plans are network based. The least expensive plan may not be in a network your doctor or hospital are in. Your card may not be accepted.
- If you find yourself with a plan your health care provider doesn’t accept, you may cancel and re-enroll until May 15. After that you won’t be able to change your health insurance until January 1, 2022.
- Jerry S. Pearlstein Insurance offers free assistance enrolling in the correct plan, getting all the assistance available to you and answering any questions you might have as long as you need us.
