AVOID DISASTER. 3 TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE
Police report that gangs and thieves are plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women) to stop their vehicle and get out of the car. Please read the scenarios of dangerous situations they’re seeing and their tips to stay safe.
TIP 1. You’re lured into pulling off the road. You see what looks like a car seat with a child in it at the side of the road. It’s placed beside a wooded or grassy area so that the woman or man who stops can be beaten and robbed or raped.
DON’T STOP. DON’T EVEN SLOW DOWN.
Use your car’s Emergency button or CALL 911 and report what you saw.
TIP 2. Eggs are tossed to splatter on your windshield. Police advise:
DO NOT STOP TO CHECK YOUR CAR, DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPERS AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%.
Put your Hazard flashers on. Keep driving until you can exit in a lighted area. Use your car’s Emergency button or call 911 to report what is happening and have them stay with you until you stop.
TIP 3. An unmarked car with a flashing red light on the rooftop pulls in behind you. There may even be a bullhorn telling you to pull over.
DO NOT STOP. DIAL 112 ON YOUR CELL PHONE.
You’ll reach an Emergency Services operator. Tell them what’s going on and that you’re not stopping. They’ll connect with police who will check to see if there is any unmarked police car where you are. They’ll send real police to catch up with you and catch the bad guys. We haven’t had to try 112 but are told it’s good in all 50 states.
